About This Workshop

Awakened by Wonder: A Return to Self Through Intuitive Watercolor & Mixed Media

Let this be your invitation to play, to breathe, and to remember the magic of making art… not for perfection, but for joy.

Awakened by Wonder is a soulful, nature-inspired retreat designed for anyone ready to rekindle or rediscover their creative spark. Whether you’re a lifelong artist seeking fresh inspiration or someone who hasn’t picked up a paintbrush in years, this experience will meet you with warmth, curiosity, and a gentle invitation to begin again — right where you are.

Through a series of heart-led, intuitive practices, we’ll reconnect with ourselves and the natural world. Each day opens with grounding rituals — like a meditative color “treasure hunt” in nature, painting garden shadows, or writing personal affirmations — helping us land in the present moment and open to creative flow.

From there, we’ll dive into expressive watercolor and mixed media practices inspired by emotion, texture, and presence. Using vibrant pan watercolors and fluid acrylic inks, you’ll explore meditative brushwork, intuitive mark-making, and playful color layering. We’ll paint with unexpected tools like feathers, blooms, and handmade natural brushes — adding depth and spontaneity to your work.

Throughout the retreat, you’ll create hand-painted affirmation postcards, richly textured painted papers, abstract landscapes in your journal, and a collection of soulful “portal paintings” — layered, expressive pieces that often reflect personal stories, emotion, and intuition. Some may even find inspiration to collage elements of their own creations, adding another layer of meaning to the process.

These artworks become visual reminders of your inner wisdom, creative spark, and the magic of returning to yourself through art. Symbolic images often rise to the surface, whispering truths you didn’t know you needed to hear.

I’ll hold space with warmth, encouragement, and a teaching style rooted in my own journey of creative healing. You’ll be supported to trust your instincts, welcome happy accidents, and embrace the imperfect beauty of your unique voice.

You’ll leave with:

  • A personal collection of expressive portal paintings in watercolor and acrylic ink

  • Hand-painted affirmation postcards and vibrant papers for continued inspiration

  • A journal of abstract landscapes, ideas, and intuitive marks

  • A deeper connection to your creative rhythm and inner voice

  • Simple, grounding practices to carry the magic home

  • And most of all — new friendships, joyful memories, and a renewed sense of freedom in your art

I’m so excited to share this journey with you! You’ll learn a lot, feel inspired, connect deeply with nature, and walk away with meaningful artwork and lasting creative joy. See you in May!

About Krista Brock

Krista J. Brock is a mixed media, intuitive watercolor, and teaching artist whose work is rooted in emotional honesty, soulful exploration, and a deep reverence for color and nature. With over 15 years of experience making and sharing art, Krista’s paintings collected both locally and internationally — often blend delicate watercolor washes with expressive mark-making, symbolic collage, and the spontaneous emergence of imagery like women’s faces, birds, and owls.

After surviving a rare stroke brought on by COVID, Krista rebuilt her creative life from the ground up shifting from large studio work to quiet watercolor mornings, reconnecting with nature, and learning to follow her own rhythm again. Krista’s curiosity and perseverance led her gently back through the practice of watercolor, a medium she chose for its softness, flow, and the invitation to breathe with each brushstroke. These quiet moments evolved into a daily ritual of emotional processing, presence, and healing. From this, her affirmation cards and portal paintings were born layered, intuitive works that reflect a conversation between color, curiosity, and self-compassion.

As her strength and creativity returned, so did her love for the bold, textured beauty of mixed media collage. Today, her work embraces both the gentleness of watercolor, the dynamic energy of acrylic ink, vintage ephemera, messy and marvelous collage, and found materials. She often incorporates natural tools and painted textures, encouraging organic symbolism and personal meaning to rise to the surface. This experience deeply guides her teaching, which gently encourages others toward intuitive expression, emotional presence, and personal transformation through art.

Krista has taught expressive art workshops for children, teens, and adults for many years, creating heart-centered spaces that prioritize creative freedom over perfection. Whether helping artists loosen up or supporting someone who hasn’t painted in years, her guidance is gentle, affirming, and grounded in her own journey of healing and return.

Krista lives in Clermont, Florida with her husband of 28 years, their wise old pup Lola, and two curious cats who often sneak into the studio to be part of the creative process. Together, they raised two amazing grown children who continue to inspire her with their resilience and heart.
