ABOUT THIS RETREAT
Description
Major artists of 20th century made paper collage an integral part of their studio practice. Artists as diverse as Ellsworth Kelly, Robert Motherwell, Sonja Delaunay, Hannalore Baron and Henry Matisse employed collage techniques to investigate color and form, and even to make finished works of art.
In this workshop we use paint, paper, marking tools and simple gluing techniques to explore visual form and process in a supportive studio atmosphere. (We will be making swatches of flat color that require little painting skill.) Studies are small in scale, under 11 x 8.5”, and numerous, with an emphasis on visual experimentation and play rather than on the production of finished works. Working sessions are complemented by slide presentations and classroom discussion.
